Short Practicum at Citadel Middle School, SD43

Grade 7/8 Multi-age Cluster Class (MACC).
The entire class was designated as gifted. Some students were twice exceptional, meaning although they were gifted they also had a learning disability.
I've never met such happy, inquisitive students so enthusiastic about learning. Students were encouraged to take ownership of their own learning by using techniques such as flipped classroom, choices on how to present projects, options to work ahead, self assessing homework and co-creating rubrics.
I was moved by strong sense of community in this school. Each student was valued by teachers and each other. There was also a great team spirit among the staff as well. Classes were grouped into teams. Team teachers coordinated lessons. Teachers from all teams met every week to discuss how to better support students.
