Alone or in partners, you will research, design, and build a solar oven that will heat a cup of water to boiling.
You may chose someone from another class as long as you have the same teacher.
Timeline:
May 18-21: Research different ovens, Collaborate.
MAY 20 - TASK 1 DUE:
Plan your design: Discuss with your partners what components to incorporate into your design, plan who will bring what, where and when to build.
May 28-29- TASK 2: TEST YOUR (PROTOTYPE) OVENS AT SCHOOL. Make sure you partner brings the oven!
Discuss with your partner what you will change about your oven to improve the efficiency. Discuss how and when you will make the changes.
JUNE 2 - TASK 3: SUBMIT YOUR POST-LAB REPORT, ONLINE, NOT EMAILED. INDIVIDUALLY. USE THE LINK ABOVE.
JUNE 3/4 - TASK 4: TEST YOUR SECOND PROTOTYPE AT SCHOOL, Discuss changes you would make to improve your oven. Who and when these changes will be made.
JUNE 7 - TASK 5: POST LAB REPORT. TO BE SUBMITTED ON LINE, NOT EMAILED. INDIVIDUALLY.
JUNE 13/14 - TASK 6: LAST TEST OF YOUR 3RD PROTOTYPE.
JUNE 17/18 - FINAL REPORT.

MAY 20 - TASK 1 DUE:
- To be EMAILED to [email protected]:
- Research at least 3 solar oven designs. In your search, you must include: (1) the link(s) where you found the design (2) a picture of the design, and (3) a written paragraph explaining what elements of the design you like.
- Provide a sketch of the solar oven you plan on constructing. You must include at least 2 views, label all important features, and make it neat. This sketch will serve as a blueprint for your first solar oven.
- Explanation of the advantages of the features you’ve included in YOUR design.
- For your sketch: draw it on a piece of paper, label materials and measurements; take a picture, cut and paste it into the word doc.
- Use THIS FORM from Mr. Chan as your template.
- All your info should be on this one word document
- Email ONE per group
- DUE NO LATER THAN MIDNIGHT MAY 20
- NO LATE SUBMISSIONS. NO EXCEPTIONS.
